Challenge Du Jour- Day 1- Country Heat

Ahhhh. Have I ever told you how much I hate dancing??? Not drunk dancing. That I love and I slay!

Slay.

Slay.

Slay.

Or I think I do.

Slay.

And that's all that matters.

But without liquid courage, I am a mess when it comes to dancing. 

Or is it with liquid courage, I am a mess when it comes to dancing?? Jury is still out on that one.

So I don't really drink that much anymore. So..

Dancing...

Even the simplest move, I'm like wait what- left left right hip left huh?? And then when I see that something is hard for me and I look like a fool, I get more self-conscious and just want to quit. 

So why the heck would I be doing Country Heat? 

A couple of reasons:

1. Trying things I hate.

2. Trying things I am bad at.

3. Making things I am bad at things I am good at.

4. Challenge Du Jor!

I finished Hammer and Chisel a few months ago and have been pretty lost when it comes to a workout program. I did a few 21 Day Fix workouts but really slacked and claimed my hurt foot prevented me from doing any of the leg workouts. (Possibly true. Possibly a stretch of the truth.) I've found that without a workout plan, without a calendar telling me what workout to do on what day, I just don't workout or I pick the easiest workouts. And if something doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you. If a workout is easy, it's not doing anything for your body. It needs to be a little hard. You shouldn't be able to do all the moves without sweating. If you are, you're not pushing yourself! And the past few weeks, I haven't been pushing myself. I will give myself a little grace about my hurt foot, but I also know I was milking that excuse for too long. 

So I just didn't know what to do. I've been doing 21 Day Fix and 21 Day Fix Extreme over and over and am kinda bored with them. I can't do Hammer and Chisel while also training for the marathon. It's too intense. And Piyo will be good on some days, but I can't commit to it full-time again. Then my coach suggested Beach Body on Demand's Challenge Du Jour for the variety, so that's what I am doing!

Challenge Du Jour is for you if you are lost and don't know what program to do. Beach Body picks one workout from its many programs, streams it online, and you do that workout. It's a different program every day, but it's with the trainers I know and love. Seriously, I have been doing these programs for the past 2 years, follow these trainers' social media accounts, and feel like I know them! Tony Horton? Fittest old man in the world. Knows everything scientific about exercise. Shaun T? Effing insane and super motivating. I love his Facebook posts. Chalene Johnson? OMG. Most positive person on the planet. Also a super savvy business owner who is successful in everything she does. Hard work pays off! Autumn Calabrese?? She's my girl!!

So I love Autumn Calabrese, but I hate country music and I hate dancing. Country Heat was the first workout for Challenge Du Jour. Awesome. It's okay, I told myself, I can do it! I will survive! Worse things can happen in life.

I'll be honest. I hated this workout for the first 15 minutes. Two left feet on this girl! Then around minute 16, it picked up, and I found myself sweating. I am not winning any So You Think You Can Dance competitions with these dance move, but hey, I love a Charleston opportunity any chance I get it. Oh, and she teaches you how lasso a horse, so there's that.

But Is This Program For Me?

Country Heat is for you if you love country music, you love dancing, you hate lifting, or you just way a fun way to get up and move around... AND it's for you if you have a girl crush on Autumn Calabrese and will do anything she tells you to do. It's low intensity. No jumping. Easy on the knees. No equipment required. It is only 33 minutes. Oh, like the same length as a TV show? Yeah. You have 33 minutes in your day! Best part is you can stream from your phone or computer do not have to waste time driving to the gym or feeling bad if you are an awful dancer like me!
